SAMPLE TESTS USING SOFT ULTRASONIC TRANSDUCERS BY JP PROBE

What samples can be inspected?

• WELD, rough surfaces can be inspected directly from over the surface using: Soft transducer, Jutan
• CURVE pipes, round surfaces can be inspected using: Flexible transducer, Takota

Example: Measurement on a rough gas-cut surface of rebar

• Test material : Rebar – Irregular gas-cut surface (has ridges and is rough)
• Velocity : 5900m/s
• Frequency : 5MHz, Single element 
• Measurement : Thickness/length of the rebar

1. Using conventional hard case type straight beam transducer

There is almost no backwall echo, as the contact between conventional transducer on the gas-cut rebar surface is uneven and the user will have to smoothen the surface for inspection.

2. Using JUTAN soft case type straight beam transducer (HC 5K10N)

With the same settings above, we obtain a high-sensitive backwall echo at 251.7mm without having to smoothen the rough gas-cut rebar surface.

JUTAN is a soft ultrasonic transducer which has a soft detection surface enabling the user to time efficiently inspect rough surfaces and complex shapes.

TAKOTAN is a flexible ultrasonic transducer which can fit onto any round and curved object surface like an octopus. The flexibility is achieved due to special materials of its 3 layers: composite element, matching layer, and damping material.

Jutan & Takotan are compatible with standard flaw detectors.
